Thousands of school children in Australia walked out of school on November 30th, 2018 to protest that the governments lack of action is jeopardizing their future. Cities were brought to a standstill and it it made the world headlines. How do you feel about this? Is it admirable that the youngest generation cares so much about their future, or is it harmful that they are missing school?

Why not use this lesson on the topic with your classes? Learners will:

  • Find out more about this strike
  • practice listening comprehension with an authentic text: a 2-minute video
  • learn vocabulary on the topic of activism
  • Discuss what changes they would like to see and the best way to bring change about is.

Materials: A projector, an internet connection and the slides below. Level: B1 upwards, young learners and adults.

But the content is the driving force of the lesson – you’ve done a great job in selecting resources and I particularly like your questions that prompt a personal response from the learners.
